Behind his name: There was no particular reasoning behind the name "Shawn." His mother Gigi had simply selected "Shawn" as his first name because she liked it. Gigi chose "Cannon" as Shawn's middle name because her favorite camera brand was Cannon.
Childhood: Shawn was born into the series in the last chapter of the first book. At birth, he weighed eight pounds and was 20.6 inches. Not much about Shawn's childhood is known.
During one Christmas, Shawn knew Gracie wanted this expensive baby doll her mother couldn't afford, so he used his allowance and Christmas money to buy the doll, which he gave to Gracie on Christmas day. At age seven, he shared his first kiss with Jessie while they were playing a dance game and bumped lips while falling down.
Shawn had a rough teenage experience but was relatively a good kid.
Shawn wasn't happy when he learned his mother had gotten back together with his absent father without even telling him. He decided to give his father a chance but this was hard for him to do. Then, he learned his father's other kids were moving in which meant they had to move into a house. This huge change really stressed him out. To cope with all the changes, Shawn started sleeping with his girlfriend Rose. Their first time was unprotected, they used condoms each time after but weren't lucky enough. Shawn had gotten Rose pregnant during their first time. Shawn was supportive and did what he could to help Rose and the baby but he thought it would be best for them to put the baby up for adoption because didn't want to risk any more changes with his family. However, Shawn's father abandoned him and the two other boys which made Shawn remember a promise he had made himself. "If I ever have kids, I'm going to stick around and raise them. I will not be my father." This reminder and some convincing from Rose lead to Shawn and Rose making the decision to keep their son. He was only fifteen-years-old when their son Shane was born.
Raising Shane brought difficulty in many departments. Shawn often felt trapped because he couldn't just go out with friends whenever he wanted or put his full attention on his team sport. This brought on arguments between Rose and Shawn. Since Rose looked after Shane the most to allow Shawn to remain on the swim team, she grew frustrated and angry whenever he refused to give up his freedom to allow her some fun once in a while. Rose didn't agree it was fair for Shawn to get time away from Shane and yet she almost never got a break. This tension led to fights over who had to do what at home, such as who had to stop what they were doing to change Shane's diaper. All this fighting and the stress of being a teen father, caused Shawn to give up and abandon his son. He spent some time away before realizing the big mistake he had made thanks to Emily. "I don't hate you. I'm just upset you turned into the very person you said you'd never be. Your father." Emily - Shawn. Luckily, Shawn was forgiven by Rose and they improved their relationship and also evened out the time they got a break from their son.
Personality: Shawn could be sarcastic at times and was very gentle and kind. His most known trait was his nosiness. Like his mother, Shawn couldn't turn away from a good juicy story. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind either. Shawn was mostly a laid-back and easy-going kind of guy, though could be very serious when needed.
Shawn's magic training
In September 2016, Shawn, age 10 - 11, was a first-year wizard in training. He was given Luke Archer as his guardian and his best friend Gracie as his teammate. Shawn was a good student but didn't always focus on his school work as much as he should have.
